Stop waiting until you're good at something to devote yourself to it. That's backward for you. Pick the direction that scares you a little, build a small daily practice around it, and let the competence arrive as a side effect of the tending, not a prerequisite for it. And when an old devotion goes cold, let it. Mourning it is fine. Reviving it out of loyalty is not.
