Libra
Libra Ah, Libra. The Balance. The only sign which is an object, and instrument rather than a being. Libra is ruled by Venus, and is the 2nd sign ruled by Venus, being related thereby to Taurus. Libra is the Cardinal Air sign. Libra is associated with Art and Beauty and Fairness, and can be thought of as bringing the Venus powers of relating, of the Other and our desire for it, up from the physical world to the mental. Libra seeks balance through dynamic grace. Libra is not after stasis but rather loves and seeks out chaos so that it can better express itself. Libra has a fine sense for the elemental inputs to any situation, gleaning from the subtext the invisible signals needed perform its balancing function. After the first attempt by Leo and the review from Virgo, it is Libra who produces humanity's most pleasing results.
This responsibility does weigh heavily on the Libra, and areas of your chart touched by Libra might also find some indecisiveness to go along with the diplomacy and grace. Libra is associated with the arts due to its inherent instinct for the beautiful and is also knows to be bit loose with the Captial T Truth if an inconvenient fact might cause someone pain. Libra is charming. Libra wants to please everyone, and this desire can result in an inadvertent suppression of the underlying self's own wishes. It may even be a challenge for someone with a lot of Libra in their chart to realize selfishness is an option.
Myth The gift of discernment in mythology is often represented as a double-edged sword. The pain of the Libra comes from having to decide when the time for weighing has passed and we need to choose between multiple worthy options. No amount of grace can soothe the wound of closed doors, or paper over the fact that choosing one direction means the death of another. King Solomon's wisdom came accompanied with the ruler's authoritarian power, but for most Libras the torture of decisions is haunted by the tribulations of Paris, who was asked to choose between Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena as the most beautiful of goddesses. His choice ultimately spawned the Trojan War and his own doom. The lesson? There are some unavoidable decisions that are better left unmade, and sometimes life is unfair. These are very difficult conclusions for Librans to accept.
In more modern context Libra is the sign of existentialists, the sign of Kierkegaard's either/or, of the profound mystery of choice and faith. When you hear the voice of God telling you to sacrifice Isaac, what would you do? Pray you never are, and in the meantime, try to understand why you might need to say Yes.
The Hand of Fate: Ultimately the correctness of a decision or choice depends on Self Knowledge. Before you can know what you want, what is best, you must Know Thyself.
