Scorpio

Scorpio After the perfection of Libra, we come to the sign which throws balance out of the window. Scorpio is driven by intensity. Intensity of experience, intensity of feeling. Scorpio seeks out those arenas of life where the edges of existence can be found and is the sign most comfortable with sudden, dramatic change. Scorpio is the Fixed Water sign and true to its elemental nature it is attuned to the directional signals which come from the soul more than any other. Scorpio is comfortable acting upon instincts and desires that might make most of us cringe or push down with so much repression we only become aware of them via projection. So much of the world is arranged via relations and relationships between people and things, carefully organized to not upset the fine balance of egos and the ossified personal stakes of society at large. These mean nothing to Scorpio, which is what gives the sign its fearsome reputation.

Knowing which buttons to push and which to leave alone can be a challenge for this sign. After all, we have to live with others in society and cannot express every desire at every moment we have it. Some tact must be allowed for. But each layer of artifice wears down the Scorpio's antennae a bit more. If it loses its connection with its own sense of purpose, it may lose the spark of joy for life that goes along with it. To find your true companions on this journey, you may have to go through a few fires of initiation along the way, but the pain is always worth the lasting truth that it reveals.

Myth Many of us try and go through life avoiding a confrontation with the uncomfortable and dangerous emotions and unconscious contents which Scorpio seems to court. Few of us would have the bravery of Perseus to fight Medusa, even if we had the supernatural support which he was able to garner, but Scorpio at some level seems drawn to it. At some point they need to recognize that constant transformation, constant metamorphosis and change comes at the cynical expense of the fair values which the peaceful inhabitants of the forest seem quite content to live by. As with each of the signs, the motivations of each brings gifts and curses both, and discerning the balance between darkness and complacency requires Scorpio to acknowledge the joy of the Other and try to understand the how a completely different perspective on life might exist.

The Hand of Fate: To stop before the edge, to know without having to go over it, to be in the world without destroying it. Scorpio's fearsome quest goes into the underworld, but to truly succeed they must re-emerge into the light.
